They don’t call it the rainy season for nuthin’! We woke to really
low skies and eminent rain. My instinct:
HUNKER DOWN! And boy did it pour, and pour, and pour! While this was great for
a relaxing day, it was really kind of claustrophobic and boring, and I think we
started to get on each other’s nerves.
Sean was kind enough to make the half & half run, only to discover that half and half does not exist in Panama. So he chose
Leche (regular milk) and just in case, condensed milk in a carton. Perplexed, I opted for the milk, and thus my
coffee was disappointing.
We made scrambled eggs and bacon ($7.99 lb.) for breakfast. It was good, even if the fact that eggs here are
indeed not refrigerated (which freaked Emma out). I
finished the book I was reading. It turned
out ok, but I think the writing could have been much stronger. I’m on the
look-out for my next read. Emma and I
watched TV, and basically just hung out.
Sean got us KFC for lunch. (I
Know, I know, but we hadn’t properly shopped yet for meals, and it was just
crappy out, so we opted for the familiar.)
It was good, but again not very cheap. And for dinner…Dominos…(OK, so I
am a big fat chicken!) But I really wanted pizza, and 2 medium pizzas with a liter
of soda was only $15--about the same as at home. We finally found the English speaking
channels, and reveled in American fast food, and Restaurant Impossible,
and I was happy.
But, I made a vow to be more active and brave the next day and
to explore—regardless of the weather.
